Thermo Fisher Scientific is a scientific instrumentation, reagents and consumables, and software and services provider to healthcare, life science, and other laboratories in academia, government, and industry. This project involves the renovation of a 113,000-SF existing facility that allows for increased production and manufacturing of POROS, a small resin-based bead utilized in chromatography in the pharmaceutical industry. POROS is currently in high demand by companies developing both vaccines and therapeutic treatment for COVID-19. Thermo Fisher needs increased production capability to facilitate the demand for the product.
Overview
PMA Role
PMA provided project management, master schedule support, and cost management for this project. PMA was the on-site representative for the owner during construction and managed channels of communication with the construction team and client’s team. PMA also provided coordination of the commissioning agents, process automation engineers, FFE vendors, and other relevant stakeholders related to construction and CQV. Other primary tasks included ensuring compliance of all design documents and that specifications were being met, enforcing safety policies, coordinating vendors, and verifying accuracy of schedule submissions. PMA provided master schedule integration with inputs from the CM’s construction schedule, the client’s internal CQV team, the building commission agent, and the process system automation team. PMA was also responsible for providing reviews of all contractor invoices, pay applications, change order requests, cash flow submissions, and overall contractual compliance. Additionally, PMA provided review and coordination of RFIs and submittals, compared change order scope to the construction documents, and provided quality reviews on an as-needed basis.
