Orange County Utilities (OCU) provides high quality potable water at its new 300-mgd, Southern Regional Water Supply Facility (SRWSF). The $32 million facility services tourist, commercial, and residential water customers and is supplied by a well field that uses six production wells to pump water from the lower Floridan Aquifer. The wells extend to depths that vary from 1,100 to 1,400 feet. This project is a first for OCU in choosing ozone oxidation as the main treatment process for this plant. Ozone is a capital cost-intensive process but is extremely effective in oxidizing sulfide in Florida groundwater.
Overview
PMA Role
PMA’s involvement on this project included cost estimating during design and project controls services during construction through completion of the plant; duration of the construction activities was 24 months. During design, PMA staff was in charge of generating cost estimates at 30%, 60%, and 100% design levels. PMA staff also provided on-site project controls services, including tracking the construction budget, change order pricing and negotiations, and providing progress schedule reviews.
