PSEG delivery senior management recognized that the significant increase in capital construction expenditures in coming years warranted the creation of a Project Controls Group to assist in executing projects.
Overview
PMA Role
PMA serves as a consultant of choice for PSEG on project planning and oversight, project controls, budget management, cost control, workforce development, PMIS, IT consulting, and program governance for their construction capital program. PMA was initially hired to analyze PSEG project management practices, compare them to best practices in the industry, and make recommendations for improvement. The outcome was a road map for PSEG to follow to achieve a best practices standard of excellence in project management. The implementation included the setup of an enterprise scheduling environment and the creation and maintenance of approximately 450 projects with a construction value in excess of $1 billion annually.
PMA currently provides project controls scheduling services to assist with project planning, project scheduling, and project administration. PMA project controls cost engineering services include project planning, project administration, and forecasting. PMA augments the PSEG IT group in providing automated reporting tools for upper management and various stakeholder groups. Reporting tool examples include status reports for stakeholders that demonstrate electrical outages, contracts, procurement, and real estate; cost reports that include cost forecasts and budget status and comparisons of actual cost versus forecast; and scheduling reports with dashboards in Oracle analytics, scheduling status reports, and scorecard milestone reports. Finally, PMA provides P6 training and guidance to the stakeholders, schedulers, and project controls engineers.
