The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is a public-owned utility that provides electricity to 100,000 customers and water to 58,000 customers, as well as steam and chilled water services in the Lansing area. In 2022, the Lansing BWL had nearly $400 million in total revenue. To increase the efficiency of their operations, the BWL retained the services of an engineering design firm to provide a robust Project Management Office to enhance and supplement existing BWL staff and processes.
Overview
As part of the PMO team, PMA is providing scheduling, project management information system, and cash flow expertise to the PMO implementation effort. PMA is working to integrate scheduling templates, work breakdown structures, and cash flow forecasting procedures into a standardized BWL project management process. Additionally, PMA is working to leverage the power of the PMIS to make the dissemination of project status information rigorous, yet contemporaneous and comprehensible. These services maximize opportunities for BWL to make course corrections during a project and strengthen the likelihood of project success. Due to continued success on the initial contract, PMA was further engaged to maintain and update the master portfolio schedule based on monthly progress. Alongside the BWL capital controls supervisor, PMA also creates and implements schedule recovery strategies for cost and time issues and provides schedule management training to BWL staff.PMA Role
