The $52 million Danvers Ivan G. Smith Elementary School K-5 school project includes the construction of a new 82,000-SF facility on an existing site. As a result of this project, the school increased enrollment from 290 to 465 students. The additional capacity alleviates overcrowding at other elementary schools in the town and maximizes educational equity throughout the district. This project also included traffic and site improvements. The building is on track to receive Collaborative for High Performing School (CHPS) Certification. Additional features of this project include a cafetorium, a climbing wall and rope net in the gym, learning commons with reading nooks, a STEAM room with a recording studio, therapeutic learning centers, a sod soccer field, and a chilled beam air distribution system.
Overview
PMA Role
PMA represented the Town of Danvers as the owner’s project manager (OPM) during the project’s feasibility, schematic design, and construction phases. The town signed a GMP agreement with the contractor in April 2020, under budget, and with almost $1 million in additional scope holds/allowances. The site contractor accelerated the summer work due to early school closures spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. PMA is also working with Diamond Relocation and the Reuse Network (IRN) to coordinate moving staff/teacher belongings and donating furniture..
