What are you passionate about, and how do you pursue that passion at PMA?
I have a strong passion for knowledge. I am always striving to learn as much as I can about any topic that interests me. From a professional side, I want to be the person with the latest and greatest info. I am constantly reading the most recent articles in my profession and attending training seminars and local societies’ meetings. There is a wealth of information out there. The trick is to invest the time to gain the most benefit. There is no secret formula. It all comes with experience and what drives you. This passion continues on my side, whether it is world related, family related, or a favorite hobby. I treat them all the same, with extensive research to learn the most on an important subject.
What current project(s) are you working on?
We provide project controls support to several clients. The largest is the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). We have been supporting this client for as long as I have been at PMA. We provide schedule reviews, time entitlement analyses, contract time determinations, claim support, and overall coordination assistance.
Who/what inspires you to push yourself?
Believe it or not, when I find myself in a rut and need a good shove to get going again, I turn to the Internet. Whether it is a video or a blog, there is always something interesting and informative to kick-start yourself with the latest approaches or better mouse traps to solving issues in our industry or my personal life.
What are the most positive aspects of working at PMA?
For me, it has been the variety. Before joining PMA, I was locked in such a routine to perform my job with minimal challenge. Since joining PMA, I have been involved with every aspect of project controls you can imagine, from scheduling, cost, claims, risk, earned value, to name a few. Whatever area you want to grow in, PMA leadership has always encouraged and created opportunities for you to succeed.
What is something innovative happening in your industry that makes you excited about the future?
For years, scheduling software and the methods for building and analyzing schedules have been routine and non-robust. The true interpretation of the schedule was left up to the creator or reviewer. Over the past 5 years, there has been a massive jump in both the software’s power and the method of using it. Today we are talking about integrating BIM with the schedule for a 4D model; risk analysis to determine the probability of completing a project on time; tools to determine schedule performance; dashboards displaying key performance indicators and Power BI; and, just on the horizon, is augmented reality (AR). All are driving towards an owner or contractor improving the odds to complete a project on time successfully.

What is your favorite local establishment/feature (restaurant, museum, stadium, etc.)?
Local Parks – I love getting outside among nature and go for a nice long hike. The fresh air, beautiful scenery, and animals chattering make this world a great place to live.
Provide a fun fact or secret talent about yourself?
Not sure how much of a secret it is, but most people know I have a strong passion for photography, especially wildlife and landscapes. I have been published in several magazines over the years and won several photo awards. Until Covid hit, all my vacation time and most weekends were spent traveling or visiting local sites. I have not fully resumed yet, but there is light at the end of this tunnel!
